Meet Jonathan Schmierer, 2008 International Business alumnus from Oregon State. After undergrad, Jonathan served in the Peace Corps in Ethiopia for two years. Jonathan chose to pursue his MBA at Willamette because of the unique experiential courses offered:
"I was in the O'neill student investment fund [at Willamette University] in fall 2016. We had about half million dollars to that we actively managed in the stock market. The fall semester was a tumultuous time due to uncertainty around the US election, the Federal Reserve, and the post Brexit vote. I learned not only how to measure the risk, but also how to manage it. As a class we invested money in multiple asset classes while hedging our positions. I am not sure if I'll work in the investments field after graduation, but the class still taught me about risk management and unexpected outcomes, which are essential skills for any managerial position."
