US Forest Service, Pacific Northwest Research Station
My overall position within the Forest Inventory and Analysis (FIA) program is to coordinate the field data collection of our program's permanent forest monitoring sites across the state of Washington. There are approximately 4900 forest monitoring plots scattered across the state that are visited by field crews once every 10 years so we can see how forests are changing over time. My day-to-day work involves a lot of communication with landowners and land managers, coordinating field plans with the crews, and going to the field for about a week a month between April and October.
